Counseling Diagnostic Assessment Vignette #14 – Client with Symptoms of Depression

  1. I noticed that at the end of most of your assessment you refer the client to a counselor, would this be a typical way of doing an assessment? I thought that the assessment were given by the Mental Health Counselor already? The assessment comes first with the counselor, then the client has the choice to be referred to a Psychiatrist or Psychologist correct to understand their needs and diagnoses, and may meet with a counselor in the process, before and after, if they decide to do Psychotherapy "Talk Therapy " or whichever therapy is provided by that provider, correct? I just need clarification, because I understand the process and how it works, but would like to understand the steps with different scenarios. Currently enrolled in a Clinical program and would like to know the correct way how to go about giving my client an assessment.
