For years, women have been telling anecdotes about how they feel their personalities changed after taking the pill. Some of them experience serious mental health problems, which they believe are caused directly by taking hormonal contraceptives. A new review of 30 years of research has concluded that progestin contraceptives do not cause depression. The new study, published in the journal Contraception, concludes that progestin pills are not related to women who develop depression at any age. This contradicts a large study from Denmark that found that women had a 34% higher risk of depression when taking the pill.
