Depression is a major cause of disability and even death worldwide, according to the WHO. More than 300 million people are suffering and do not fulfill their social functions due to depression. There are excellent detection and treatment tools available. But less than half of them are actually getting this. This is due to inadequate resources, social stigma and lost diagnoses.

About Dr. Brewer: Dr. Brewer started as an emergency doctor. After seeing too many patients dead from early heart attacks, he went to Johns Hopkins to learn Preventive Medicine. He then went on to direct the postgraduate (residency) training program in preventive medicine at Hopkins. From there, he made a career in the practice and management of preventive medicine and primary care clinics. His last role in this area was the Medical Director of Premise, which has more than 500 primary care / prevention clinics. He was also the Medical Director of MDLIVE, the second largest telemedicine company. More recently, he founded PrevMed, a clinic for the prevention of heart attacks, strokes and diabetes.
At PrevMed, we focus on heart attack, stroke, disability, cancer and Alzheimer's prevention. We found a large amount of type 2 diabetes not diagnosed. The treatment of unrecognized risk factors such as diabetes allows risk reduction. We offer state-of-the-art genetic tests, images, laboratories and telemedicine options. We serve patients who have already experienced an event, as well as those who have not developed a diagnosis or event. Our team of high level clinical practitioners includes internationally recognized leaders in the research and treatment of cardiovascular diseases, preventive medicine and well-being. We also provide preventive medicine through telemedicine technology to more than 30 states. Contact Dr. Brewer at [email protected] or visit

    1. Thanks again. Perhaps one should look (in addition to other things) in a depression related to physical events such as illness which cause depression in otherwise non-depressed patient, or physiological issues other than neurotransmitters, some physiological imbalance which may throw out metabolite balance etc. If we just concentrate on Depression as a Mental Illness, we may miss other causes. Something similar happens in people with asthma when they actually don't have asthma but bronchial inflammation due to chronic rhinitis GERD and so on. What do you think?

    2. What do you think about trying a low dose corticoid for treatment? Rheumatologists often use long term prednisone (about 1.5mg daily) for RA symptoms with zero negative effects. Cortisones have such a bad rap bc they are associated with the negative outcomes of high dose therapy. I would much rather take the low risk of using low dose steroid than the risks of standard anti-depressants. Convincing a doctor is monumental. I'm on budesonide capsules (for another problem) which are so expensive, and my doctors don't want to even give the cheap stuff a try.

    3. Dr. Brewer: Good video. These days it is much easier for the doctor to write a prescription (treat the symptom) for a bag of pills, than it is to find the root cause of the issue. I believe the cause of depression, dementia and other related conditions (I don't believe it is a disease) is the food most people eat these days. GMO food, Round-up contaminated, and highly processed food has led Americans down the path of reduced life span and a life of pain and suffering. But it isn't going to change, that is why those who want to be healthier, live longer and enjoy life must seek out doctors like you who are focused on preventing deteriorating health conditions.

    4. Before my STEMI I was having severe anxiety/depression. Didn't know I had CAD so I thought I was losing my mind. Since normal blood flow has been restored…I'm better, IMO physically as well as psychologically . Who knew? My eyes have been opened and I work in the medical field…not an MD. I had no idea. This is so complicated.

    5. I like magnesium L threonate with rhodiola rosea. It quickens my mind, increases recall big time and lifts my mood, great nootropics.

    6. I believe the #1 cause of depression/suicide is the compulsive defeat, anxiety, self degradation, degradation of others involved in sexual addiction. There is no natural physical pleasure that can trump the pleasure of the endorphins released during orgasm for a sex addict.

Sex addiction is strong, compulsive and progressive and eventually makes all other pleasures meaningless, burning out receptors due to the power of the endorphins released. They are malcontent because they are sex addicted, and sex addicted beause they are malcontent and they always see someone else as the problem they are to everyone. Most of them are cross addicted to food, drugs, alcohol, media, etc., as well.

Depression and sexual addiction is caused by feminization, weak mindedness/intellectual dereliction with a preference or attraction to immorality, lies, error and unhealthy political and religious zeal, other toxic personalities or other excitements. Those afflicted are easily triggered, status quo worshipping, overuse psychological defense mechanisms and in complete denial of the extent of their problem. They feel inferior to others and feel the need to compensate by puffing up like cobras and creating a false illusion of worth earning degrees, seeking power or some false sense of superiority/power over others. They always struggle with legitimate authority, family and work/co-workers. They are inept.

Doctors are powerless to treat/cure sex addiction or depression effectively and honestly because it is a moral issue, not a medical one. Clergy is just as inept to help them. All too many clergy are sex addicted themselves, using their collar, degree or title as a veneer over a failed life. There is no honest way of getting an honest outcome in studying this since the subjects are dishonest at best and completely deluded and perverted at worst.

Doctors have abdicated their role with patients in good nutritional counselling. Instead of them being incompetent, disingenuous psychiatrists they are better off stepping back and and helping people in the real ways they honestly can, once they get some credible nutritional training and education that is not subsidized by big pharma. The result is billions of people today are sex/drug addicts making them and everything progressively worse, especially by ignoring the real problem.

There is no money to be made in medicine from healthy people but it is despicable to pretend to be able treat the weak minded, that are so easily suggestible to the erroneous drug of day as a treatment, to cure or relieve their tortured senses. They always make matters worse.
